The town of Caernarfon is steeped in history and dominated by its famous 13th Century castle; the ancient walls and gateways giving it a distinctly medieval atmosphere. It is here where the Prince of Wales was invested in the grounds. The town itself is filled with narrow streets just waiting to be explored and a recently developed waterfront that is well worth a visit.
Also boasting a castle is lovely Conwy; one of Britain’s best preserved medieval towns, with many of its stone walls still intact. This world heritage site is fronted by a pretty quay and harbour, while its cobbled streets are filled with historic buildings.
Cross the Menai Straits, a 19th Century suspension bridge, and you will come to the famous Isle of Anglesey. This historic island is filled with character and known for its beaches and historic sites. Known as ‘Ynys Mon’ to the locals, Anglesey is home to Llanfair PG, shortened name of the 58 letter longest named village in Britain, and Beaumaris, fronted by its moated castle.
No visit to North Wales is complete without a visit to magnificent Snowdonia National Park. Visit Betws-y-Coed, the famous mountain village in the heart of Snowdonia, renowned for its local crafts and spectacular waterfalls, or the slate mining region of Llanberis.
