Matlock, Bakewell and Chatsworth House
In the heart of the Peak District you will find popular tourist centre, Matlock Bath, a village with a seaside resort feel despite being miles from the sea, and Bakewell, a pretty market town where we highly recommend you sample a local pudding. We head into the Peak District and visit stately Chatsworth House. Known as the ‘Palace of the Peaks’ the interior rooms are treasure troves of priceless furniture and magnificent paintings. Chatsworth House is renowned for the quality of its art, landscape, and historic importance.
Within the house there are over 25 rooms to explore, many of them filled with works of art that span 4,000 years, from ancient Roman and Egyptian sculpture to and masterpieces by Rembrandt, Reynolds, and Veronese. There is also a lovely farm shop café serving seasonal dishes, which is a great spot for afternoon tea. Your group can admire the splendour of the house and explore over 105 acres of gardens discovering water features, the Maze, Rock Garden, giant sculptures and beautiful flowers and the impressive Emperor Fountain which falls 600 feet down the hillside.
National Trust Kedleston Hall
Even the drive to Kedleston House is visually spectacular and when you first see the house it is like stepping through time. This stunning house is home to the Curzon family and has a very impressive grand entrance with large marble pillars that give it a Roman look.
Each room depicts work from Robert Adam, there are many examples of paintings and treasures. Knowledgeable volunteer guides are in every room to answer your questions and to pass on the history of the house. Kedleston’s pleasure grounds are a brilliant example of an 18th-century relaxed landscape. Although it looks natural, the countryside is designed to show the Hall and its environment in the best way possible.
Chesterfield and Buxton
Home of Buxton Water, the gracious 18th century grand spa town of Buxton hosts decorative gardens and world-famous Georgian and Victorian buildings and is surrounded by the UK’s oldest National Parks. We also include a visit to Chesterfield, home to the crooked spire, and a true paradise for shoppers with its cobbled Market Place and the largest open air market in England.
